The dress watch enthusiasts still mourn. Discontinued around 2018 — here is what it was and the current heirs.

The SARB033 (black dial) and SARB035 (cream dial) are discontinued — Seiko stopped producing them around 2018 — so they are no longer sold new. They were 38 mm Japan-market dress watches with a sapphire crystal, an exhibition caseback, 100 m water resistance, and the 6R15 automatic (hacks, hand-winds, roughly a 50-hour reserve). The closest current watches are the JDM Mechanical dress line and the Presage Cocktail Time.
Why the SARB033 became a cult
The SARB was the watch people pointed to when they said Seiko could make a proper, restrained dress watch. 38 mm was a near-ideal size, the sapphire crystal and the 6R15 movement were a step above the entry range, and the plain dial let it pass for far more than it cost. When it was discontinued, the used price climbed — which is exactly why this page exists: people search for it and cannot buy one new.

What to buy instead
For the closest specification match: the JDM Mechanical dress line(shown below) keeps the formula the SARB pioneered — a Japan-market dress reference with a sapphire crystal and a 6R-series movement, rather than the Hardlex and 4R of the cheaper Presages. Like the SARB it is a JDM reference, so the warranty caveat applies.
For a more characterful dress watch you can buy anywhere: the Presage Cocktail Time. It is less understated than the SARB — a box crystal and a textured dial rather than the SARB’s plainness — but it is internationally available, and it is the watch most people cross-shop when they discover the SARB is gone.
