What this reference is

The SRPD65 belongs to what enthusiasts call the “5KX” family: the case Seiko introduced in 2019 to succeed the discontinued SKX007. It keeps the SKX’s proportions and crown-at-4 layout while replacing the 7S26 with the 4R36, which hacks and hand-winds.

What it lost in the transition is the screw-down crown and the 200 m ISO 6425 rating. The SKX was a certified diver; the 5KX is not, and Seiko does not market it as one. That distinction is what separates it from the Turtle.

Availability, honestly

The SRPD65 itself is no longer buyable through our retail partner: its listing went dead at our September 2026 price check, and Seiko’s own US store shows the reference sold out at its $395 list price. We will not point a buy button at a listing that does not exist, so the watch priced on this page is the SRPD93.

That is the same watch in a different suit. Seiko publishes the identical case for it — 42.5 mm, 46 mm lug-to-lug, 13.4 mm thick, 22 mm lugs, Hardlex, 100 m — and the identical 4R36 movement. What differs is the dress: the SRPD93 has a blue sunray dial and a blue bezel and ships on a black silicone strap, where the SRPD65 was black on a steel bracelet. Every figure in the tables below applies to both.

Sizing it against your wrist

46 mm lug-to-lug is moderate — it suits most adult wrists above about 6.25 inches. The number that catches people out is the 13.4 mm thickness, which is tall and will catch on a shirt cuff.

The rows are identical because the case is. Anything written about how an SRPD65 wears applies without adjustment to the SRPD93 — the only differences are the dial, the bezel color and whether it arrives on a strap or a bracelet.

Living with it

The crystal will scratch

Hardlex sits around 700 Vickers against roughly 2,000 for sapphire. Desk work will never trouble it; brick, granite and workshop surfaces will mark it within months. The full comparison is here.

The 22 mm lugs are the best thing about it

22 mm is the deepest aftermarket strap size there is. A $15 nylon strap or a $60 solid-link bracelet changes this watch more than any dial variant would — the strap options are here.

Do not set the date at night

The 4R36’s date mechanism engages between roughly 9 pm and 3 am. Forcing the quickset during that window risks the date wheel. The correct sequence is here.
