Best Seiko Presage Cocktail Time watches

One dial treatment, a box crystal and a 4R35 — the Cocktail Time is Seiko's most copied idea. Which of the live references is actually the one to buy.

5 picks · Prices last verified October 10, 2026. Where no live price came back we show “Check price” rather than a number we cannot stand behind. How we pick.

The best Seiko Cocktail Time to buy right now is the green SRPE15: a 40.5 mm case, 47.5 mm lug to lug, 11.8 mm thick, a box-shaped crystal over a pressed-pattern dial, and a 4R35 automatic that hand-winds and hacks. Take the 33.8 mm SRP839 if the case has to be small, or the SRE017 for the dressiest compact option. Two Presage watches here are not Cocktail Times, and the page says which.

The Cocktail Time is the watch that made Presage. The recipe has not changed much since 2016: a 40.5 mm case, a domed box-shaped crystal that bends the light at the dial edge, a dial pressed with a radial or sunburst pattern named after a drink, a 4R35 automatic, and an exhibition caseback. Nothing about that is technically remarkable. The dial under the box crystal is the entire product, and it is the reason the line outsells watches with better specifications.

This site tracks 5Cocktail Time references — a count computed from our product registry rather than typed, so it moves when the registry does. Not all of them have a buyable listing at any given moment, which is the single most useful thing to know before you start shopping the line.

What a Cocktail Time is, specifically

The name is not a model, it is a dial family inside Presage, and Seiko applies it across several case sizes. The constants worth holding onto are these:

  • A box-shaped crystal, in Hardlex. Every Cocktail Time tracked here has one, and none of them has sapphire. That is the line’s one real weakness, and the crystal comparison explains what it costs you.
  • A 4R35 automatic. Hand-winding, hacking seconds, a date, about 41 hours of reserve. The 4R35 page has the published rate; it is the same movement family as a Seiko 5 Sports, in a better case.
  • 50 m of water resistance. All of them. That is splash and handwashing, not swimming, and no Cocktail Time has a screw-down crown.
  • An exhibition caseback. Which on a dress watch is a slightly odd choice, and the reason the SRPE15 and the SRP839 are both 11.7–11.8 mm thick rather than the 9 mm a flat back would allow.

Ranked, and why

1. SRPE15 — the one with every number published

Who it is for: anyone who wants the full-size Cocktail Time and would like to know what they are buying first. It is the only reference on this page with a published case diameter, lug-to-lug andthickness — 40.5 mm, 47.5 mm and 11.8 mm — on 20 mm lugs, with a green pressed-pattern gloss dial and a screw-down see-through caseback. A 47.5 mm lug-to-lug is long for 40.5 mm, so this wears bigger than the diameter implies; the fit guide has the arithmetic.

2. SRP839 — the small one with real dimensions

Who it is for: a wrist the 40.5 mm case overhangs. 33.8 mm across, 11.7 mm thick, box crystal, exhibition back, same 4R35. Seiko does not publish a lug-to-lug for it, so that row stays empty here. It is the only Cocktail Time we track with a documented sub-35 mm case.

3. SRE017 — the dressiest, with the least documentation

Who it is for:someone who wants the box crystal and the textured dial in a compact case and does not need the numbers. Seiko’s retail listing publishes the collection, the crystal, the exhibition back and 50 m, and does not publish the case diameter or lug-to-lug. We are not going to estimate them. If the dimensions matter, buy the SRP839.

4. SRPK46 — Presage, not a Cocktail Time

Who it is for:the person who wants this look on a steel bracelet rather than leather. 40.2 mm, 11.8 mm, 20 mm lugs, 50 m, 4R35 — but a flat Hardlex crystal and no Cocktail Time dial. Listings will sell it to you as one. It is not one, and the crystal is the tell.

5. SSA459 — Presage with a power reserve, not a Cocktail Time

Who it is for: someone who would rather have a complication than a cocktail. 40.5 mm, 47.5 mm lug to lug, 14.4 mm thick, box crystal, and a 4R57 with a date hand and a power-reserve indicator. It is the thickest watch on this page by 2.6 mm, which is what the extra module costs.

The column that decides most purchases is the last one, and it is the column no retailer prints. “Presage” and “Cocktail Time” are not synonyms: Presage is the collection, Cocktail Time is a dial family inside it, and the box crystal is the cheapest reliable way to tell from a photograph.

The two references you will see and cannot buy

The SRPB43 and SRPB46 are the Cocktail Times most lists lead with — the champagne-dial original and the colour-shifting one — and both carry a documented 40.5 mm case with a 47.6 mm lug-to-lug. Neither has had a live offer at our last price check, which is why neither is ranked here. They appear on the dress watch page and on the Cocktail Time reference page with their full specifications; if one comes back, it will carry a price again automatically.

Best for: A green dial that goes under a shirt cuff

What it gets right

  • 11.8 mm thick — the slimmest watch on the green roundup, and 2.6 mm slimmer than the other green Presage
  • Ships on a steel bracelet, where most Cocktail Times ship on leather
  • Box-shaped crystal over a pressed, gloss-finished dial
  • 47.5 mm lug-to-lug on a 40.5 mm case, which is a forgiving ratio

What it gets wrong

  • 50 m — hand-washing and rain, not swimming
  • Hardlex, not sapphire, at Presage money
  • 4R35 is date-only, with the same 41-hour reserve as a Seiko 5
  • Seiko USA lists this reference sold out

Skip this one if: the watch has to go in water. 50 m is the lowest rating of any green Seiko we rank, and on a dress case with a push-pull crown it means keep it dry — the SRPL53 is the same color brief with 200 m behind it.

What it gets right

  • 50 m
  • Hardlex
  • Costs considerably more than the small Seiko 5 automatics

Skip this one if: budget is the constraint. The SYMA35 is a small mechanical Seiko for a fraction of this — what you pay for here is the crystal, the dial and the better movement.

What to settle before you buy

Does it have to be a Cocktail Time, or does it have to look like one?

If it has to be one, you are choosing between three references and the choice is mostly size. If it has to look like one, the field widens a lot and the money goes further: Presage versus the Orient Bambino covers the cheapest route to a domed-crystal dress automatic, and Presage versus the Tissot PRX covers the Swiss alternative at the same money.

40.5 mm or 33.8 mm?

This is the real decision and it is not about gender — Seiko publishes no gender specification, only dimensions. The 40.5 mm case has a 47.5 mm lug-to-lug, which is long; the 33.8 mm case is genuinely small. Measure your wrist and read the fit guide before you order, because a dress watch that overhangs looks worse than a sports watch that does.

Can you live without sapphire?

No Cocktail Time has it. A box-shaped crystal is domed and proud of the case, which is exactly the geometry that meets door frames first, and Hardlex scratches where sapphire does not. If that is unacceptable, the sapphire rounduplists every Seiko that ships it — and none of them is a Cocktail Time.

Leather or steel?

The Cocktail Times here come on leather; the SRPK46 comes on steel. The lugs are 20 mm on every reference whose lug width Seiko publishes, so either is a swap away — the lug width table has the figures and the bracelet page has the 20 mm options.

What a Cocktail Time will not do

It will not go swimming, it will not survive a knock to the crystal the way a sports watch will, and it will not keep better time than a Seiko 5 — it is the same movement family. What it does is look like a watch three times the price from eighteen inches away, which is the only job a dress watch has. It is also not the best dress Seiko ever made — that distinction usually goes to the discontinued SARB033, which had a sapphire crystal over a flat dial and which the Cocktail Time succeeded with a box crystal and more colour. For the line above it, Seiko 5 versus Presage and Prospex versus Presage set out what the extra money buys.

Questions

Why is it called Cocktail Time?

Because the dials are named after drinks. The line began as a collaboration with a Tokyo bartender and each dial pattern and colour is matched to a cocktail — which is why you will see references described as the Mojito, the Negroni or the Manhattan rather than by their reference numbers. Seiko’s own listings use the reference; the nicknames are retail shorthand.

Is the Seiko Cocktail Time a good first automatic?

It is a good first dress automatic. It is a poor only watch: 50 m, no screw-down crown, a proud Hardlex crystal and a leather strap mean it does not want to be worn to do anything. If you need one watch for everything, the everyday page is the right list and the beginner page explains why.

Does any Cocktail Time have a sapphire crystal?

None of the references this site tracks does. Every Cocktail Time here lists a box-shaped Hardlex crystal in its published specification. Higher Presage references move to sapphire, but they are not Cocktail Times, and we are not going to imply otherwise.

What is the smallest Seiko Cocktail Time?

Of the references tracked here, the SRP839 at a published 33.8 mmis the smallest with documented dimensions. The SRE017 is also a compact case, but Seiko’s retail listing does not publish a diameter for it, so we cannot tell you which of the two is smaller.

What is the difference between Presage and Cocktail Time?

Presage is Seiko’s dress collection; Cocktail Time is a dial family inside it. A Presage can be a Cocktail Time, but most are not — the SRPK46 and SSA459 on this page are Presage watches with ordinary dials. The box-shaped crystal is the quickest tell. The line hierarchy page maps the whole range.

Why can I not buy the SRPB43?

It has had no buyable offer at our last several price checks. We do not rank watches we cannot price, so the champagne original sits unranked on its reference pagewith full specifications and a “check price” link instead of a number. If a live offer returns, the price layer picks it up without the page being rewritten.
